  6. 1  Introduction
  7.  
  8. Hard disks continue to get larger and larger...20MB, 40MB, 80MB,
  9. 120MB, 210MB...will it ever end?  Let's hope not.  But one thing
  10. we can hope for is an easier way to find our files on these large
  11. drives.  WinFind is a file finder utility for Microsoft Windows 3.1.
  12. It not only finds your files, by name or by file contents, but 
  13. launches the applications associated with your files with the 
  14. appropriate files preloaded.

  16. WinFind is a shareware program so you are welcome to try it out 
  17. free of charge.  However, if you like it and decide to keep it on 
  18. your system, you are obligated to register your copy by paying 
  19. $5.95 U.S. to the author at the address given below.  Registration 
  20. entitles you to legally use this and all future releases of WinFind, 
  21. notification of future releases, and technical support.

  23. 2  Usage
  24.  
  25. WinFind is executed by running the program WINFND10.EXE.  Upon
  26. execution, the main WinFind window is displayed.  This window
  27. is partitioned vertically into the following 6 areas (listed
  28. from top to bottom):

  30.      1.  File name vs. file contents: select the button for 
  31.      the type of search you wish to conduct.
  32.  
  33.      2.  Target string: enter the string you wish to search
  34.      for.  Depending on the above button, the string will be
  35.      treated as either a substring of a file name, or a  
  36.      substring of a file's contents.
  37.  
  38.      3.  File extensions: select the file extensions (.txt 
  39.      for example) to which you want to limit the search.  
  40.      Only files with the extensions you specify will be 
  41.      matched against the target string.

  43.      4.  Directory: specify the disk drive and subdirectory
  44.      (c:\dos for example) which you want to search.  Only 
  45.      files within the specified directory and all of its 
  46.      subdirectories will be searched.

  48.      5.  Launch menu: select a file to be launched from a 
  49.      menu of the previous 10 files found and launched by 
  50.      WinFind.  This menu provides a quick method for 
  51.      launching frequently used files without repeating 
  52.      searches.

  54.      6.  Push buttons: the bottom of the WinFind window 
  55.      contains the following four buttons.  "Find" initiates 
  56.      a file search based on the contents of the previous 
  57.      fields.  "Cancel" closes and exits the WinFind application.  
  58.      "Options" opens a window containing various search options 
  59.      which may be set by the user.  And "About" opens a window 
  60.      providing information about WinFind, registration, etc.

  62. The "Options" window currently provides two user options.  The first
  63. controls the behavior of WinFind following a successful search and
  64. launch of an application.  If this "After Launch" option is set to
  65. "Normal", the WinFind window remains open on your desktop following
  66. a launch.  If the option is set to "Minimize", the WinFind window
  67. is minimized to an icon following a launch.  If the option is set
  68. to "Exit", WinFind is closed and exited following a launch.  The 
  69. second user option is to turn on or off an audible beep which is
  70. played each time a file is found during a search.  If ten files
  71. are found during the search, 10 beeps will be heard.

  73. 3  Legal Rights

  75. WinFind is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, 
  76. either express or implied.  No liability is assumed from any 
  77. damage or loss resulting from the use of this program.  You are 
  78. free to copy and share WinFind with others, as long as the two 
  79. files WINFND10.EXE and WINFND10.TXT are distributed together 
  80. and not modified in any way.

  82. Shareware distributors ARE permitted to include WinFind with 
  83. their distributions, but any fee charged by the distributor DOES 
  84. NOT cover the $5.95 registration fee that you the user owe to 
  85. author if you decide to keep and use WinFind.  Businesses, 
  86. Government agencies, and other organizations may purchase a 
  87. site license by contacting the author for additional information.

  130. 6  Other Shareware Programs
  131.  
  132. Two other shareware programs are currently available from the 
  133. author.  
  134.  
  135. PinUp Notes is an electronic post-it notes program for Windows 3.0 
  136. and 3.1.  The program consists of a single icon from which both 
  137. text and bitmap notes may be generated with a single mouse click.  
  138. Text notes allow you to enter brief notes or reminders from the 
  139. keyboard.  Bitmap notes allow you to copy regions of the screen 
  140. to a note window.  All notes are saved across sessions, and may be 
  141. printed, cut/pasted, edited, and archived.

  143. SysUse is a performance monitor program for Windows 3.0 and 3.1.
  144. It monitors your computer's CPU, memory, system resources, and
  145. disk space, all within one window (or icon if minimized.)  It 
  146. is also very efficient, taking very little CPU time away from 
  147. your other applications.
